Services
Adoptions
We find new, loving homes for approximately 1,000 surrendered or stray pets annually. Our low adoption fee includes initial vaccinations, deworming, flea treatment, health check, spay/neutering, and microchip. Adopting an animal from the Shelter is an especially loving way to bring a pet into your home. The staff is always happy to hear how the adoptee is doing, and many owners bring their pets back for visits.
Lost and Found
Every year, we reunite many lost pets and their owners, a rewarding and joyful experience. A dog or cat licence is your pet's best identification. Consider micro-chipping your pet. Even if it loses its collar and tags, you can still be identified.
Should you lose your pet, please call the Shelter and give a detailed description, as well as a phone number where you can be reached. A picture of your lost pet is especially helpful.
Animal Control
Under fee-for-service contracts, we enforce the municipal pet by-laws for Oakville and Milton. This is the only municipal funding the Shelter receives; for all other services we provide, we rely on donations from our district communities. Click here to read Oakville's new animal by-law.
Cremation and Burial
The Oakville & Milton Humane Society provides a cremation service for your deceased pet. We use a third-party cremation company to care for your needs in this difficult time. Two different services are available; a communal cremation and an individual cremation. With an individual cremation you receive your animal’s ashes back and with a communal cremation you do not. The ashes are stored in your choice of three urns.

Columbarium
We have a cemetery on the front of our property but unfortunately it is now full.
We do however have a columbarium on site, which can hold up to 5-6 small
urns (1 square foot). The price for a niche in the columbarium is $1000.00
and you receive a plaque with the animal’s name on it.
Ambulance Service
The Oakville & Milton Humane Society offers an emergency transport service to residents of Oakville & Milton. If your animal has a medical emergency, an Animal Protection Officer will come to your home and transport your animal to your veterinarian. The fees are as follows:
To receive this service, call the Animal Protective Services Department at 905-845-1551 ext. 12.
Violence Prevention Service
The Oakville & Milton Humane Society has a Violence Prevention Program in place to help people who find themselves in abusive situations. If a person is being abused by their partner and decide to leave, but don’t have anywhere to place their animals, the Shelter will take them in on a short-term basis while the person is relocating. To qualify for this program, you must be approved by the Executive Director of the Shelter.
Other Services
We provide 24-hour help for injured pets and wildlife. There are also education and pet therapy services.
The Humane Society Does Not:
1. Act as pest control agency.
2. Handle barking complaints.
3. Give veterinary advice. Please consult your veterinarian.
4. Operate or sponsor spay and neuter clinics or free rabies clinics.
